For those alums who were at APHA - wasn't it great?  And for anyone who did not go, I encourage you to make it a priority in your schedule and funding.

I got a great deal from the conference, but was most inspired by discussions surrounding the social determinants of health.  I am amazed at all the issues that I never considered that can determine the health status of our clients.  There are numerous policies that can make a difference if we but get involved in the process.  We are not just administrators of "down stream"(new term I learned at APHA) interventions, but must be aware of our obligation to impact prevention efforts 'upstream".

I welcome comments and discussion on this issue as to how we can impact policies that affect the health of our communities.
